Joke of the week

 The golf game

It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon while Moses, Jesus, and another guy were out playing golf. On the first tee-box, Moses pulls out his driver and blisters a shot up the right side of the fairway, rolling fast towards a water hazard. Moses quickly raised his club, parting the water while his ball rolls through to the other side safely.

Next up on the tee, Jesus hits a really long drive right towards the very same water hazard. His ball came to rest dead center of the pond, hovering just over the surface of the water. Jesus casually walks out onto the pond, and chips it up onto the green within a couple feet of the flagstick.

Not impressed, the third guy steps up to the tee without taking any time and just randomly whacks at the ball. Rightfully so, the ball is hit with a nasty hook that clears the left OB markers and goes over a fence into oncoming traffic. It bounces off a truck's windshield hitting a nearby tree, bounces onto the roof of the greenkeeper's shed, back out onto the fairway and towards the same pond that Moses and Jesus hit. Before it gets wet, the ball ricochets off a small rock and bounces onto a lily pad on over the water when a bullfrog jumped up and ate the ball. Right at that moment, a bald eagle swoops down and grabs the frog, flying away. As it flew over the green, the frog squeals with fright and drops the ball right next to the flagstick, taking one bounce and landing in the cup for an astounding hole in one.

In disgust, Moses then turns to Jesus and says, "I hate playing with your Dad."

Her life has reached the end

Dear brothers and sisters, my grandma passed away 5am today, 30th September. She had been in pain for a very long time; bed ridden since a year ago, in sickness for about 3 years. Her condition worsened 2 weeks ago due to her kidney failure and newly diagnosed cancer. Internal bleeding since last week made dialysis impossible hence the acidity of her blood slowly took her life away.

My father managed to come home from China on time to see her for the last time.

Thank you to all of you who have been praying for her. My sister Wai Siong managed to tell her of God's love, but she couldn't talk because she was choking on her own blood. She only groaned and frowned when she heard of God. We don't know if she is reconciled to God. Only our Father knows.

I learned one thing from this. I shouldn't have waited all those years, hesitating to tell her about Jesus. I waited, I told myself the time will come. But I waited too long; that I forgot about it.

An atheist once said if what we Christians say about our God is true, he would walk a mile on broken glass just to save one soul. I was not wiling to walk that mile of broken glass for my grandma.

Brothers and sisters, the burden of the Lord will always and forever be His people.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matt 11:29-30

Why go to church?

A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."
This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column. Much to the delight of the editor, it went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher: "I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this! They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!"
Thank God for our physical and our spiritual nourishment! I'm blessed to belong to a community of believers who shares the same passion... i hope all of you are too:-)

Beware

" Not Everyone who says that it is for the sake of the kingdom of God is the true minister of the gospel. "
Ps Noah

So girls and guys.. Just be on guard yea..

God's Greatness in Healing

It was on 7th June, Sunday when Uncle Bernard Hor lost his grip and tumbled off a roof. The hard fall to the ground fractured his leg, split his skull into hald, and damaged his lungs. Upon reaching HUKM, doctors noted that he might also be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his days due to a damage in his spinal cord. Upon admittance into ICU, Uncle Bernard had irregularly quick heart beats and high pressure from the expanding of his brain. Family members were told to prepare for the worst.

That Sunday service, CEFC prayed for them and on Monday afternoon, some of us got a message to gather in church the same night to pray for Uncle Bernard and his family. An operation was needed to relieve Uncle Bernard's condition but we prayed for complete healing without him going under a surgeon's knife.

"There is only 50% success rate for the surgery; of which 25% he will recover and be able to lead a normal life and the other 25% where he will be paralyzed", we were told that night.

On Tue morning, news came through that there might not be a need for surgery but worries still plagued many of our hearts. And as we continued on the prayer chain, the doctor announced that there is no need for surgery at all as the swelling in the brain was subsiding. On the same day, Uncle Bernard underwent a surgery for his fractured leg to prevent infection and the surgery was a success.

Today, another wave of relief came when the family was notified that Uncle Bernard's spinal cord is not affected by the fall hence he will be up and running in no time. His condition is much more stabilized currently and he had been taken off sedatives.

Brothers and sisters, every single item that you prayed for came to pass in Jesus's name. Therefore continue praying untill complete healing takes place. Aside the good news mentioned, Justin and Joshua's elder brother Julian was allowed to come home for 1 week to be with the family and their mother is also back from Holland. And guess what, because Julian works for the government there will be 70% discount on the hospital charges aside from insurance claims and monetary gifts from relatives. Ain't our God a great God?

The following are some prayer items:

  • Surgery on the skull to be replaced with an artificial skull will not be needed. Instead, the bones will be joined together through God's healing.
  • Uncle Bernard will have speedy recovering and be healthier than before.
  • Uncle Bernard will not suffer from personality disorders due to damage in his brain.
  • The salvation of the family. Uncle Bernard, his wife and Julian have yet to receive the Lord.
  • Their financial burdens will be eased.
There will be a prayer meeting on Friday, 12th June in church at 8pm. Be there to pray even more mightily.

Dear brothers and sisters, this incident has not only brought the Hor family together but also us, as a family in the Body of Christ. Prayer helps us to believe for greater things from God and the claim for healing for Uncle Bernard causes our faith to rise. When the devil is all out for evil, God will intervene and turn the incident to good for His glory. Let us breakthrough in our walk with God and continue to pray unceasingly.

Remember, our prayer moves the hand of God. If we don't pray for the lost, who else would?

24-hour Global Prayer Chain List

Youthaflame lets pray for our brothers Justin and Joshua's dad Uncle Bernard as he is admitted into hospital after a fall at home. He's suffering from a fracture on his leg and skull. He is now being monitored 24 hours in HUKM's ICU. Please contact your CG leaders or Pastor (if you cant get Justin/Joshua) if you would like to visit him. It's time to care and lift our brothers in prayer.

We came up with a 24-hour prayer chain and welcome all who are willing to support our brothers who are in need.

Following is the prayer list for them and it starts today and ends when Unc Bernard is fully healed!

All Youth Aflame and also non Youth Aflame of all ages are encouraged to join in our hearts and hands in prayer for Justin and Joshua's father. We believe that prayers cause God to move mountains. So let's walk the talk by praying and prove that our God is indeed the Healer.

To sign up, please contact Albert Lim via phone at 016-6350264, MSN or email at allbelot@hotmail.com. Please let Albert know your availability.

Next was the makan session~

2 greenies posing while the "hungry ghosts" behind lunge for the food...

Fur Jonathan Kuek was our speaker for the day~

It is the Alpha way that we all scribble our answers on a sheet of mahjong paper..
And through this we got to know that different people produce different "results"

Some looked simple and sweet...

Some....
dot dot dot...
haha..

We all gave our opinions on what sin is..

And to why Jesus died on the cross...
All the pain.. All the humiliation.. And ultimately God had to turn away from Him...
He did it.. All for us..
That we might be saved, redeemed and cleansed of our sins..
He loved us this much, that He laid down His life so that we may live.
So dear friends.. Let's not forget what Christ has done on the cross for us.. Salvation is free.. But it is not without a price.. Therefore Easter is a good time for us to remember what Christ has done.. And also the great commission which He left us with.. hehe..

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Matthew 28: 18- 20

Last but not least....
Have a blessed Easter!!!!!! :)

Youth Aflame supports Earth Hour

It was an hour ago that Youth Alpha ended. And more notably, Youth Alpha was done in darkness, in support of Earth Hour. The session touched on who Jesus really is and what evidence is there to support his claim that he is God?

We first discussed whether Jesus was a mad man, a bad man or a God man? Was he crazy for making such absurd claims that eventually led him to his death, was he a con man who lied to the whole world or was He really who He claimed to be - God?

To Christians, Jesus was without a doubt a God man. But the question remains, what proof or evidence are there to support that 'fact'? Rachel, the facilitator for tonight's session mentioned 3 points:

1) His teachings are the foundation of today's western civilization.
2) By dying on the cross, Jesus fulfilled 29 prophesies where the event was mentioned.
3) He rose from the dead.

However, how can anyone be sure that Jesus really did resurrect? Over the years, people have developed many theories and 3 of them were tabled this evening.

Conspiracy Theory 1 - Jesus didn't really die
Some argued that Jesus merely passed out from the pain and exhaustion of the crucifixion. It is believed that he was taken off the cross afterwards and laid down in a tomb where he speedily recovered and left as soon as he was able to do so.

Weakness of this theory: If Jesus were to only pass out and left the tomb when he recovered consciousness would be quite an impossible claim because he was horrendously tortured by the Roman soldiers a day before crucifixion that he could barely stand on his wounded pair of legs. So how could he have gained consciousness, rolled away the heavy stone at the tomb entrance and fought off the Roman guards?

Conspiracy Theory 2 - The disciples stole the body
Others believed when his disciples found out he was placed in a tomb, they staged a mission to steal his body in the middle of the night. They crept up and overpowered the sleeping Roman guards and rolled away the stone that was blocking the tomb entrance. The disciples then started rumors that Jesus had risen from the dead in order to make themselves seem more important. Throughout the rest of their lives, they kept to themselves what happened that night.

Weakness of this theory: The disciples were already in shock and confusion after loosing their teacher, their leader. They would not have mustered the courage to steal Jesus' body, and defeat the Roman guards who were far more superior in brawn. Aside from that point, all disciples somehow suffered severely and some died for Jesus' cause; that he has risen from the dead. If Jesus did not really resurrect, wouldn't at least one disciple blurt out that they stole the body and Jesus did not rose from the dead to save his own life?

Conspiracy Theory 3 - The authorities removed Jesus' body
Another conspiracy was that the Jewish and Roman authorities stole Jesus' body to avoid the tomb becoming a kind of shrine or holy place crowded with Jesus' followers. So they simply took the body and buried it somewhere else.

Weakness of this theory: If the authorities stole the body, wouldn't they also parade Jesus' body to the whole world to prove their point, that Jesus actually died instead of being resurrected?

Towards the end of the evening, Pastor Noah took stage to close the session, asking (especially the Christians) if we really believe in what we believe in? "Because, mark my words, your faith will be challenged one day," he said. He ended with a question, "What kind of life do you want to live?"; a life that fulfills our ambitions or a life that fulfills God's will?

God's Weird Love

I read this story about a year ago and it has been on my mind since. I thought I might share it with all of you; the peculiar choice of friends our God has.

By Steve Brown
Source: ChristianityToday

God makes what seem to me some very funny choices—meaning, they're not necessarily the choices I would make. You see, I always thought God had a big house in which the people who did what He said could live, worship, and enjoy fellowship. On the outside were the people who didn't do what God said to do. I, of course, was on the inside, because I did what He said—or at least tried to. I figured my sincerity would give me a pass.

But I was wrong.

God said to Moses in Exodus 33:19, "I will make all My goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you My name 'The Lord.' And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy" (ESV). In other words, God will choose His own friends, thank you very much.

That has always bothered me.

I am probably as religious as any person you know. Maybe even more. I teach religion to religious students at a religious graduate school. I stand before a whole lot of people and say religious things. I write religious books, I teach religious seminars, and I do religious radio broadcasts.

I'm really religious.

What bugs me is when God chooses to love people who aren't religious or, at any rate, not as religious as I am. I'm beginning to learn that God makes, by my judgment, some weird choices. He loves people who drive me nuts, and He has mercy on people to whom I would not show mercy. He moves beyond religious institutions and befriends people with whom I would not be friends.

God loves people who drive me nuts, and He has mercy on people to whom I would not show mercy.

Whoopi Goldberg, who calls herself an atheist, is not one of my favorite people. But did you see her movie Sister Act? It's about a worldly nightclub singer who hides from some thugs who want to kill her. What makes it unique is that she hides in a Roman Catholic convent. She dresses like a nun and becomes the choir director, teaching the nuns to sing music that's more upbeat and fun than their usual convent fare.

What makes the story for me is this: Early in the film, the convent church is old and filled with old people who are very religious. Once the nightclub singer/nun starts leading the choir, however, the people on the outside (prostitutes, drug addicts, and other colorful characters) start coming into the church. In fact, they fill the church.

When I first saw that scene, I started crying. (I hardly cry at anything. I'm a guy, okay?) My wife, who was with me, gave me a look that said clearly, "Will you stop it? Are you a fruitcake? This is a comedy. Can't you see that everybody else in this theater is laughing, and you're crying? I think I'm going to sit somewhere else and pretend that I don't know you."

Nevertheless, I couldn't stop weeping. When the movie was over, I asked God about my peculiar reaction, and I felt Him answer that it wasn't me—it was Him. He was speaking through that scene.

I whined in response, But Lord, Whoopi Goldberg? Why couldn't it have been through Billy Graham or the Pope?

I didn't get an answer.

I have a recurring dream in which I'm finally home in heaven and am sitting at the Lord's Table for the marriage supper of the Lamb. All kinds of people are there. Clergy persons are present, some leaders of the church, and even one or two television preachers. But as I look around, I also see former adulterers, liars, and thieves. There are one-time prostitutes and pimps, tax collectors and drunks. There are also those who were once homosexuals, pornographers, and gluttons. And, frankly, I'm shocked.

Then, in my dream, I hear a voice from the throne, and the words are addressed to me. The voice is God's, and He asks, "And what do you think you're doing here?"

I think maybe He was kidding, but I'm not sure. I usually wake up before I find out.

I used to think God's love could be logically explained and measured. I now know that God's love runs far deeper than we can fathom.

There was a time when I was sure I could explain and defend God. I've found out, though, that He is beyond explanation—and not in need of defense. He was doing fine before I came along, and He will do fine long after I'm gone. Yet for some reason, this big, scary, and confusing God who chooses unlikely friends has chosen to love me. And I see His love in everything, without exception. The question is not, "Where is God's love?" The question is, "Where isn't God's love?"

Logan, the Sky Angel Cowboy

The video is about a phone call from a young boy called Logan to a Christian Radio station 89.3FM KSBJ which broadcasts from Houston, Texas. He called to talk about his distress after having to put down his own calf that morning.

To those who have been away from our Father, as cliched as this may sound, remember that He is here and will always be here for you. Sometimes it takes something or someone else to remind us of God's love and it's so wonderful that our God does it through people halfway across the globe, like Logan.

What are you doing now, sitting there? Start running back to Him!

May you succeed in trimming off the extra pounds after these 15 days.

After a week of not seeing each other, it's time for our youth's family reunion dinner. Oh yeah, brace yourselves for all the great food in making! I present to you the great chefs - Eddy Chang and of course, ahem, yours truly. (Actually, we don't have a menu yet)

So what you can do is leave a comment on the stuff you want to see on the grill on Saturday night. We'll try to entertain your requests if it's feasible. So start cracking the head of yours and ask your tummy what it wants for Saturday night.

Below are the details for the bbq dinner:

Date: 31st Jan 2009, Saturday
Venue: Ann Pang's house.
Time: 7pm - come early if you want to lend a hand to the cooks.

For those who has no idea where is Ann's house, please contact your cg leader or Jonathan Kuek at 0162486300 for further inquiries.

Oh and of course, bring your buddies from school, college or work along. We would love to meet them. Till Saturday, fast yourselves and get ready for the great feast to start this year off.

Just so you know...

RSVP stands for a French phrase that translates to "please respond" or literally "respond, if you please" It is with this meaning that invitation cards and similar documents are often marked with "R.S.V.P." It is standard practice to reply to an RSVP request whether confirming attendance or declining.
